Sustainable Tourism in Amaru Community – Full Day Itinerary

Pick up at your hotel and transfer to the community. The villagers of the Amaru Community will greet their visitors with music and beautiful native flowers, along with a symbolic offering to the Mother Earth or “Pachamama” to give thanks for this new day and the opportunity to share it with brothers and sisters from different cultures.

After this welcome, you will be invited to join the villagers to gather the flowers and leaves that will be used as natural dyes, plants that the “Pachamama” gives us. We continue with an explanation and brief demonstration of shearing, spinning, and collecting the wool into skeins. We then see how the wool is dyed and the colour fixed, and the process ends with hand weaving.

The iconography that is used in each of these weavings is loaded with great spiritual significance for the inhabitants of the Peruvian Andes, and they will share the meaning of some of the more important motifs with us.

Lastly, we will go to the exhibition room to see some finished pieces with an opportunity to buy a variety of items (clothes, table runners, scarves, shawls, traditional style Andean bags, belts, and others).
