Uyuni salt flat tour in 2 days allows you to enjoy the Uyuni salt flat and the sunset in it; an experience from another world.
In the rainy season from November to March, the salt flat could be flooded in that case passengers will visit the train cemetery, the Colchani village where it is possible to observe the extracting salt process by hand, visit the salt eyes, impressive for its geology, and cross the salt flat as much as possible to enjoy a beautiful landscape, the entire salt flat is completely covered with water and it becomes in a white giant mirror where the sky is reflected perfectly and everything seems to be floating in the air.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Uyuni – Colchani.

After picking you up from your hotel or the airport, we will start our tour to the Salar de Uyuni, our first stop will be at the emblematic Uyuni Clock that was imported from Germany.

It has been in operation since 1930.

Continuing our tour we will visit the train cemetery that houses steam locomotives and old cars that have been abandoned for more than half a century.

We will continue towards the community of Colchani located 20 km from the city of Uyuni, visit the artisanal salt factory and finally enter the impressive Salar de Uyuni formerly known as Salar de Thunupa, has an approximate area of 10.

582km2, here we will visit the salt piles, the first salt hotel “Playa Blanca” and the monument to the Dakar, we will also visit the salt blocks that contain sculptures such as the Stairway to Heaven, The Hand of God among other rustic works made by local artisans.

To finish our experience we will wait for the sunset appreciating the Thunupa Volcano, we will make a toast with snacks and local drinks.

Return to the hotels.

Night at designed Hotel.

Day 2: Colchani –Thunupa Volcano - Uyuni   (B, L)

After breakfast at the hotel, we will start the day with the hike to the Thunupa Volcano which is located at 5432 meters above sea level, at the foot of the volcano is the community of Coqueza from where we will start with the ascent to the volcano.

The first part of the tour will be done on board of a vehicle and then we will start walking passing by Chullpas and viewpoints that will give us a spectacular view of the salt flat.

On the way down, we will visit the small lagoon of a bofedal appreciating flamingos and llamas.

We will continue to the indigenous community of Ayque to appreciate ruins and chullpas in this pre-Columbian town, finally we will visit the Incahuasi island, here we will appreciate the giant cactus (Echinopsis atacamensis) typical of the region that measure up to 10 meters high, with this short walk ends our day and begin the return to Uyuni.
